988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) offers 24/7 call, text, and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress. It was established to improve access to immediate support to meet the nation’s growing mental health, suicide, and substance use distress needs. Anyone who needs help can call 988 or reach out to local services even sooner. In Florida, the Department of Families and Children oversees the 988 hotline.
